Connect an AI assistant

How it works

Connect your HitApply account to an AI assistant, then ask it to find jobs, write tailored documents and track your applications in plain language.

What you'll need

  • A HitApply account.
  • One of these assistants: Claude, ChatGPT or Meta Muse.
  • HitApply's connection address. It's the same for everyone:
https://api.hitapply.app/mcp

You can also copy it from Settings → Connections in HitApply.

How connecting works

Every assistant follows the same three steps:

  1. Add HitApply to your assistant as a custom connector and paste the address above.
  2. Sign in to HitApply when the assistant sends you to it.
  3. Approve the connection on HitApply's approval screen. It lists exactly what the assistant will be able to do.

Then the assistant can use HitApply whenever you ask. Technically this is an MCP connection, the standard way assistants plug into other apps. You don't need to know anything about MCP to use it.

What an assistant can do

Read:

  • Your applications and their status
  • The résumés and cover letters generated for them
  • Your résumé profiles and saved templates
  • Jobs in HitApply's job search

Change:

  • Queue a job or add one from a link, which starts writing its résumé and cover letter
  • Reword your generated résumé and cover letter, applying only the edits you agree to
  • Save a résumé profile, for example one built from a résumé you share in chat
  • Mark an application as applied

Saved application answers (only if the assistant asks for them): your address, work authorization, sponsorship, salary, demographic answers and past answers, so it can fill application forms. The approval screen shows this as a separate line, so you'll always know.

Never:

  • Delete anything
  • Submit an application through HitApply
  • See your password, API keys or billing details

What an assistant reads is sent to that assistant's provider, such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Meta. Only connect assistants you already trust with your job search.

How long access lasts

Access lasts 30 days from when you approve it. After that the assistant asks you to sign in again. Reconnecting gives you another 30 days.

Disconnecting

Open Settings → Connections and press Disconnect next to the assistant. It stops all further access straight away, but it can't erase what the assistant has already read.

Troubleshooting

The assistant says it's forbidden from doing somethingYou approved a read-only connection. Disconnect, then connect again and allow changes.
The assistant stops seeing HitApplyAccess has expired after 30 days. Reconnect it.
