How it works

  • AI assistant

Connect HitApply to the AI assistant you already use, then ask it in plain language to find jobs, write tailored documents and track your applications. Some assistants can apply to jobs for you too.

Which kind of assistant do you have?

KindExamplesWhat it can do with HitApply
Chat assistantsClaude, ChatGPT, GeminiFind jobs, tailor your documents, track applications and give career advice, in chat
Personal agentsMeta Muse, ChatGPT agentAll of that, plus applying to jobs from their own browser while you're away. See Auto-apply
On your computerClaude Code, CodexFor people comfortable with a terminal: everything above, run from your own computer

Not sure? Start with the chat assistant you use most. Connecting takes about two minutes.

What you'll need

  • A HitApply account.
  • One of the assistants above.
  • HitApply's connection address. It's the same for everyone:
https://api.hitapply.app/mcp

You can also copy it from Settings → AI assistants in HitApply.

How connecting works

Every assistant follows the same three steps:

  1. Add HitApply to your assistant as a custom connector and paste the address above.
  2. Sign in to HitApply when the assistant sends you to it.
  3. Approve the connection on HitApply's approval screen. It lists exactly what the assistant will be able to do.

Then the assistant can use HitApply whenever you ask.

What an assistant can do

Read:

  • Your applications and their status
  • The résumés and cover letters generated for them
  • Your résumé profiles and saved templates
  • Jobs in HitApply's job search

Change:

  • Queue a job or add one from a link, which starts writing its résumé and cover letter. Say which résumé profile or template to use ("queue it with my Summer 2027 résumé") and it will.
  • Reword your generated résumé and cover letter, applying only the edits you agree to
  • Save a résumé profile, for example one built from a résumé you share in chat
  • Record what happened with an application: applied, interviewing, offer, rejected or withdrawn
  • Hide a job you're not interested in
  • Save a Discover search, so "any new jobs?" knows what you're looking for

Saved application answers (only if the assistant asks for them): your address, work authorization, sponsorship, salary, demographic answers and past answers, so it can fill application forms. With this, it can also save facts you tell it ("my portfolio is …"), so no assistant asks you again. The approval screen shows this as a separate line, so you'll always know.

Never:

  • Delete anything
  • Submit an application through HitApply
  • Change your assistant rules
  • See your password, API keys or billing details

Assistant rules

In Settings → AI assistants → Assistant rules:

  • Pause all assistants. Every connected assistant stops: it can't read or change anything and tells you it's paused. It stays connected, so turning the pause off brings it straight back.
  • Daily limit. On by default: assistants can queue at most 15 applications in any 24 hours. Jobs you add yourself don't count. Turn it off if you want no limit.

If you run out of credits, your assistant is told before it queues anything, rather than finding a failed application later.

What an assistant reads is sent to that assistant's provider, such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Meta. Only connect assistants you already trust with your job search.

How long access lasts

Access lasts 30 days from when you approve it. After that the assistant asks you to sign in again. Reconnecting gives you another 30 days.

Disconnecting

Open Settings → AI assistants and press Disconnect next to the assistant. It stops all further access straight away, but it can't erase what the assistant has already read.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to do
"Assistant connections are not enabled for this account yet"Connections are being rolled out gradually. Email hello@hitapply.app to ask for access.
The assistant says it's forbidden from doing somethingYou approved a read-only connection. Disconnect, then connect again and allow changes.
The assistant stops seeing HitApplyAccess has expired after 30 days. Reconnect it.
You can't find the custom connector settingIt depends on your plan. See the requirements on your assistant's page.

Technical details

The connection uses MCP (Model Context Protocol), the standard way AI assistants plug into other apps, with OAuth sign-in, so there's no client ID or secret to copy. HitApply is a hosted service: the assistant talks to your HitApply account, and your data stays there. You don't need to know any of this to use it.
