Templates
Make one with an AI assistant
Any capable AI assistant can write a HitApply template for you, either from scratch or by converting a .tex file you already have. Point it at the template reference and it has everything it needs.
Before you start
- An AI assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Muse. It doesn't need to be connected to HitApply, but connecting lets it look at your existing templates.
- A design idea, or an existing
.texfile to convert.
1. Ask for the template
Copy one of these prompts and attach your file or describe the look you want.
Convert a file you have:
Read https://hitapply.app/docs/templates/reference and follow it exactly.
Convert the attached .tex résumé into a HitApply résumé template.
Keep its look (fonts, spacing, headings, colours), remove all of my personal content, define every required macro, and give me one complete .tex file.
Design a new one:
Read https://hitapply.app/docs/templates/reference and follow it exactly.
Write a HitApply cover letter template: one page, a serif font, my name large at the top, and a thin accent line under it.
Define every required macro and give me one complete .tex file.
Start from one of your HitApply templates (needs HitApply connected):
Get my current HitApply résumé template, then make a two-column version of it that follows https://hitapply.app/docs/templates/reference. Give me one complete .tex file.
2. Import the file
- Save the assistant's answer as a file ending in
.tex, for examplemy-template.tex. - In HitApply, open Resume or Cover Letter, press Add template, then Choose a .tex file under Import a LaTeX design.
- A file that follows the reference is used exactly as written, with no conversion, so it imports quickly.
- Check the preview, press Save, then Use template.
Full steps: Import a LaTeX design.
3. Fix problems
If the template stays a Draft, the editor says why, for example a missing macro or a LaTeX error. Paste that message back to your assistant:
HitApply says: <paste the message>. Fix the template and give me the full .tex again.
Tips
- Ask for one file. HitApply can't use separate
.styfiles, images or custom fonts. - Stick to standard packages. Anything in a normal TeX Live install works.
- Don't let it add your details. Your name and experience come from your profile. A template that hard-codes them shows the same text for every job.
